Çöpün kalkması için birçok sivil toplum örgütü eylem yapmıştı. İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi, geçen sene bulduğu çöp depolama alanına Çevre ve Şehircilik Bakanlığı tarafından ÇED raporu verilmediğinden, çöp için yeni tesisler yapılana kadar dökülmeye devam ediliyor.
Çiğli halkının büyük tepkisi var. "Miyadı dolan 30 yıldır kokusunu çektiğimiz çöp ne zaman son bulacak? Malı geçtik, canımızdan mı olalım?" diye isyan etti.
